NHS still not ready

LAHORE, Nov 26: Punjab government is yet to finish the renovation work of the National Hockey Stadium, the venue of the Champions Trophy starting on Dec 4, despite given deadlines thrice earlier.

New Zealand team has already arrived, while four visiting teams, Germany, the Netherlands, India, and Spain, are scheduled to reach here by Dec 2. The renovation was started early this year by the Punjab government. PHF had asked the provincial government to complete the work in August, and then gave deadlines of Nov 20 and Nov 25 when it failed to finish the project.

But according to the contractor, one more week is required to finish the work. The walls of the stadium are still being painted, while the floor is yet to be given a finish, media centre is also incomplete and chairs are being installed.

While the Punjab government is still working on renovation, PHF too had wasted national team's precious time because of delay in laying the new surface at the venue. The delay caused trouble as Pakistan team had their first session on the new turf on Nov 23, losing advantage of home ground.
