SAHIWAL, Nov 26: Three people were killed and 19 others sustained injuries, six of them serious, in an accident on Friday on the GT Road near Chak 55/5-L.

A truck (DNA-2797) going from Multan to Lahore was parked on the road after it broke down. While driver Liaquat was sitting near his vehicle.

In the meantime, a Lahore-bound bus (LSC-1476) collided with the stationary truck due to poor visibility on account of a heavy fog. Bus driver Allah Rakha sustained injuries. The passengers came out of the bus and were providing first aid to the injured when another bus (ND-1400) coming from Sadiqabad also hit the two vehicles.

Its speed was so high that later it demolished a roadside mosque after crashing into it. Consequently, injured Allah Rakha and Liaquat died on the spot while 20 others received injuries.

They were rushed to DHQ Hospitals in Okara and Sahiwal, where one of them, Sarwar, died. The condition of Iftikhar, Binyamin (Sheikhupura), Munawar (Multan), Kamran (Rahim Yar Khan), Mahboob Ahmed (Sadiqabad) and the driver was said to be critical.

LOOTED: Armed bandits looted cash and valuables and took away a motorcycle here on Thursday night. Six armed bandits entered the house of Muhammad Yar in Sharif Colony, held the inmates hostage, collected cash and ornaments worth Rs120,000 and fled. Unidentified robbers deprived shopkeeper Abdul Rashid of his motorcycle in Model Town. Police have registered separate cases.
