KARACHI, Nov 25: An anti-terrorism court indicted on Thursday a worker of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in the case of Masjid Ali Raza bomb blast, which had left 24 dead and 37 others injured.
Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 fixed Dec 1 for the next hearing after accused Gul Hasan denied the charges and pleaded "not guilty". The judge ordered special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum to examine prosecution witnesses on the next date.
As many as 23 faithful had been killed and 37 others injured on May 31 this year when a suicide bomber blew himself inside the Masjid Ali Raza, located at the Old Numaish.,
Accused Gul Hasan, arrested on June 13, is stated to have been the mastermind of bomb blasts at Haideri Mosque and Imambargah Ali Raza. He is alleged to have planned attacks with the absconding accused, Asif Chuto and Mufti Obaid
HAIDERI MOSQUE CASE: The same court put off the hearing of the Haideri mosque bomb blast case against a worker of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after recording statement of a prosecution witness.
Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 put off the hearing till Saturday after the statement of judicial magistrate Abdul Qadeer Bururo, who was also cross- examined by defence counsel Mushtaq Ahmed.
As many as 26 people were killed and 98 others injured on May 7 when a suicide bomber blew himself inside the Haideri mosque on the premises of the Sindh Madarsatul Islam.
The LJ man, Gul Hasan, is stated to have been the mastermind of bomb blasts at Haideri Mosque and Imambargah Ali Raza. He is alleged to have planned attacks with absconding accused that included Asif Chuto and Mufti Obaid.
PAMPHLETS CASE: Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 put off hearing of a pamphlets case against an alleged worker of the banned Hizbul Tehreer after recording the statement of the accused.
The judge fixed Saturday for recording statements of defence witnesses, to be produced by the accused. According to prosecution, a police party arrested accused Syed Suleman Hasan on Oct 17 around 5:40am in front of Rahmania Masjid in Liaquatabad and seized from him a shopping bag containing pamphlets, which were inscribed with objectionable material.
Denying the charges against him, the accused also disputed his date of arrest as claimed by the prosecution. He stated that he was arrested at the behest of an organization on Oct 15. He also denied the seizure of objectionable pamphlets from him at the time of his arrest.
