MULTAN, Nov 25: Nazim Riaz Husain Qureshi has said the district government will strive to win the status of university for the Government College Bosan Road.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the department of botany at the college here on Thursday.

The college qualified to become a university as six subjects at the postgraduate level were being taught here, he added. Departments of English, Urdu, economics, political science, and zoology have already been working at the college.

He said the chief minister had agreed in principle to set up a women's university in Multan. Mr Qureshi said the district government had selected a piece of land for the proposed women's university and a report in this regard would soon be sent to the chief minister.

He promised to get funds from the provincial government for the construction of a multi-purpose hall at the Bosan Road College. Principal Prof Niaz Ahmad said the college would be self sufficient in finances as there were Rs20 million in its account.

CORRUPTION: The Anti-Corruption Establishment high ups have ordered registration of a case against three officials of provincial highways department and a contractor for allegedly misappropriating Rs1.1 million in a road project.

Registration of the case against XEN Nawaz Ghazi, SDO Ahmad Nadeem, sub-engineer Zulfiqar Ali and contractor Sadiq Ali was ordered after a preliminary inquiry held on the application of one Muhammad Arshad.

The applicant had claimed that the officials and the contractor had not even used substandard material in the construction of a part of Muzaffargarh-Mianwali Road but also left it incomplete.

SCULPTURES EXHIBITION: An exhibition of sculptures made by Sadiq Ali Shahzad will be held at the Zawar Husain Art Gallery on Saturday. Provincial minister Rana Qasim Noon will inaugurate the exhibition. A series of sculptures illustrating the work of Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Ghalib will also be on display.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified woman was found here on Thursday packed in a sack. The bag stuffed with the sliced body was lying behind the building of Government Education College on Bosan Road.When contacted, police said they had yet to find a clue to resolve the murder mystery.
