HYDERABAD, Nov 25: Noted botanists of the country have stressed the need for making efforts to preserve the flora and fauna of Pakistan and said modern techniques should be adopted to identify usefulness of different plants for the benefit of mankind.
They were presenting papers on the second day of a six-day seminar on "New trends in plant science" organized by the department of botany, University of Sindh, in collaboration with the Pakistan Botanical Society and the Science Foundation Pakistan, in Jamshoro on Thursday.
Prof (Dr) Mustafa Shamim of University of Karachi presented a paper on basic genetic mechanism, Prof (Dr) Shahida Hasnain of University of Punjab delivered a lecture on principals of genetic engineering/bio-technology and Dr Ambreen Ahmad of the Punjab University delivered a lecture on plant tissue culture.
Others who presented papers included Prof (Dr) Tahir Rajput, Prof (Dr) Mufakhirah Jan Durrani, Dr Hidayatullah Abro and Dr Bashir Ahmad.
