LW facing defeat

Published November 25, 2004

LAHORE, Nov 24: Despite a seven-wicket haul by Mohammad Khalil and a gallant unbeaten century by Khaqan Arsal, Lahore Whites were facing imminent defeat against Sialkot in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy fixture at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot on Wednesday.

Lahore Whites closed the third day at 204 for nine and still require 85 for an unlikely win on the final day with Khaqan, their last hope, batting on 110. The visitors, however, never looked like getting anywhere near their target of 289 as they stumbled to 149 for nine before Khaqan and last man Aizaz Cheema delayed Sialkot's victory with a spirited unbroken partnership of 85.

Khaqan had cracked 10 fours and one six while faced 133 balls. Khalil had earlier initiated a great fight back by Lahore Whites by taking seven for 71 as Sialkot crashed to 157 all out in the second innings having started the day at 109 for five. The 22-year-old left-arm medium-pacer finished with a match bag of 11 for 173.
