Action urged to curb sectarian element

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 23: The All-Pakistan Shia Action Committee, Balochistan, has urged President Pervez Musharraf to take action against those government officials and representatives of business community who wanted to create sectarian hatred to fulfil the agenda of Al Qaeda.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Haji Abdul Wahid, leader of the action committee, alleged that Al Qaeda activists moved to the NWFP and Balochistan after the American bombing of Afghanistan.

He claimed that after military operation in tribal areas the Al Qaeda members shifted to Quetta and enjoyed good working relations with some government officials and representatives of the trading community.

He demanded of the government that false cases registered against the members of the Shia community be withdrawn and all arrested community workers freed immediately.

Haji Wahid further said a joint meeting of the Balochistan Shia Conference, Hazara Qaumi Jirga, Jafaria Alliance, Muslim Awami Party and Imamiya Organization was held which called for determining a code of ethics for all groups to be strictly followed by the participating groups.
