S. African, US naval officials call on defence ministers

ISLAMABAD, Nov 23: The US Navy Secretary Gordon R. England and South African Naval Chief Vice Admiral J. F. Retief held separate meetings with Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal and Minister of State for Defence Zahid Hamid on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the US Navy secretary discussed with the defence ministers various matters pertaining to the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in different fields.

The ministers apprised the visiting dignitary of the requirements of Pakistan Navy. Mr England said both the countries enjoyed excellent relationship and his government would positively look into the defence requirements of Pakistan.

The US Navy secretary was informed about various measures initiated by Pakistan regarding the war on terror. The ministers reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to pursue its efforts to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country.

The US Navy secretary lauded the bold steps taken by Pakistan and said his country would fully assist Pakistan in combating the menace of terrorism. South African Naval Chief Vice Admiral J. F. Retief also held meetings with the defence ministers.
