KARACHI, Nov 23: The ban on movement of heavy vehicles during daytime has been lifted in some areas. The ban was imposed on Oct 31 after the death of 12 people in 11 road accidents in which heavy-duty trucks/dumpers were involved.

Representatives of dumpers, truck-owners association met the DIG of Traffic on Tuesday and apprised him of their problems due to the ban.

The DIG Traffic, Yameen Khan, said the ban on movement of dumpers during daytime was imposed following the death of innocent people due to rash and negligent driving by dumper drivers. The representative assured the DIG of their fullest cooperation.

It was agreed in the meeting that the ban would remain in force in some areas of the city from 7am to 8pm, which include M.A. Jinnah Road, Garden, Lea Market, Juna Market, Boulten Market, Tariq Road, Sharea Faisal and Rashid Minhas Road.

Other than the specific areas, the movement of dumpers was allowed without any condition. It was also agreed that the speed-limit for dumpers would not exceed 50 km per hours, and drivers must have HTV licence.
