SHARJAH, Nov 22: Scotland on Monday clinched inaugural ICC Intercontinental Cup with a resounding victory over Canada by an innings and 84 runs in the final at Sharjah.

John Blain and Asim Butt took four wickets each to cut Canada, 177 behind on first innings, down to eight wickets for 24. But last wicket pair Umar Bhatti (41) and Ashish Patel (25) shared a stand of 67 to prolong the inevitable as Canada were bowled out for for 93. Scotland, 180 for three overnight, declared on 287-8 with Gavin Hamilton (115) completing his second first-class ton.

The final was completed a day early as Scotland's bowlers proved themselves a class apart, Monday's showing following a similar display in first innings, when Canada were bowled out for 110. Hamilton, who spent four hours at the crease, hitting 11 boundaries, shared a fourth-wicket stand of 118 with Ryan Watson, who made 56. -PPI
