MMA's applications for public meetings

LAHORE, Nov 22: The MMA has submitted formal applications with the authorities concerned for seeking a permission for its public meetings to be held in Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi on Dec 5, 12 and 19, respectively.

According to alliance's Punjab President Hafiz Idrees, the applications had been submitted to district governments for obtaining permission for the meetings in their respective jurisdiction.

He said holding public meetings was the democratic right of the opposition which would ensure that the participants remained peaceful. The province had been divided into three parts and committees formed for each part to make preparations for the proposed public meetings, he said.

The central high command has also been approached for holding polls for various provincial offices by Dec 15 so that the alliance may be re-organized at the district level before the forthcoming local election.

A meeting of MMA's provincial council on Sunday passed a resolution urging the central leadership to reject the "unconstitutional" National Security Council by not attending its meeting. The resolution has been presented to alliance president Qazi Husain Ahmad and secretary general Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
