GILGIT: KIU to set up 18 new depts

GILGIT, Nov 22: The Karakoram International University will set up 18 new departments at a cost of Rs1.95 billion. Sources said the new departments included statistics, Urdu, economics, hotel management, mass communication , international relations and political science.

They said that the move would enable local students to pursue higher studies in their own region eliminating the need for them to go to other parts of the country. They said that the PC-1 in this regard had almost been finalized and work on these departments would begin by next year.

TERMINATED: Inspector-General of Police of the Northern Areas Sakhiullah Tareen has dismissed four police constables for their reported inability to deal with a mob in Chilmisdas on Feb 12 who seized hold of 4,400 kanals of 'crown land' after fierce clashes with the law enforcement agencies.

Clashes subdued only after the death of a youth, Elyas Karim. Those terminated from service included constable Muhammad Ali Khan, constable Qaim Ali Shah, Sahib Jan and Shah Rais Khan all residents of Nomal village.
