Education boards' results not reliable: Qazi

By Yaqoob Malik

ATTOCK: Nov 21: Federal Minister for Education Javed Ashraf Qazi on Sunday said the results of secondary and intermediate education boards could not be relied upon for admissions into higher education institutions , and for this reason an entry test system had been introduced in these institutions.

Talking to the local newsmen here, the minister said the credibility of secondary and intermediate education boards was doubtful, as their examination system carried several loopholes, hence their results could not be relied upon for admissions into medical colleges and engineering universities.

He said the government had introduced entry test system in the institutions of higher learning three years back and entrusted the responsibility to the Agha Khan University Board (AKUB) but the education boards and a religious political party were resisting it unnecessarily due to their vested interests. However, he said, a committee had been constituted to negotiate the disputed matters and remove misconceptions about the system.

Commenting on the self-finance system in education sector, he explained that the condition of colleges was not as per required standard due to lack of funds and teaching staff, therefore, five percent quota had been allocated under the self-finance scheme to overcome the financial problems of educational institutions and adjust the maximum numbers of students.

To a question on Kalabagh Dam, Mr Qazi said construction of the dam was essential for the economic stability of the country.
