MANSEHRA: Villagers attack police team

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, Nov 21: A police ASI and two constables were seriously injured when villagers attacked a police team which was searching two houses in their village near here on Saturday.

The police party which conducted the raid in village Akhori Beesa in the Jabbar Devli area, 60km from Mansehra, was in search of a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case.

According to police sources, people of the area attacked the police team led by SHO Shinkiari Ejaz Goga when it raided the houses of Abdur Rehman and Daud in search of a murder accused, Sherzaman.

The policemen were injured when they fell from the hilly track. Eyewitnesses said villagers became angry because of alleged police highhandedness as they allegedly subjected to physical torture two elderly persons, 80-year-old Acha Khan and 75-year-old Khan Wali.

They alleged that policemen dragged quilts from sleeping women and tore their clothes. According to Said Ghulam, nazim of union council Jabbar Devli, police had raided the house of deceased Daud Khan who was allegedly killed by Sherzaman in whose search police claimed to have conducted the raid.

ASI Khalil and constables Irshad and Munsif have been admitted to a hospital. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
