Pakistan name two pairs for Chennai


ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: Pakistan has selected two pairs of players for the next month's World Doubles Championship at Chennai (India). The championship will be played at Chennai from Dec 13 to 17.

Pakistan Squash Federation has selected Mansoor Zaman/ Shahid Zaman and Farhan Mehboob/ Safeerullah Khan for the World Doubles Championship. Meanwhile, brisk preparations are underway for holding the Pakistan Open squash championship at Mushaf Squash Complex from Dec 2 to 10 with 35-odd foreign players expected to enter the event.

The pre-qualifying round will be played on Dec 2-3 while qualifying round is scheduled for Dec 4-5, to be followed by the main round from Dec 6 to 10. According to PSF calendar of activities, the Malaysian and Iranian teams will also attend a month-long training camp at Mushaf Squash Complex.

They will practice alongside Pakistanis, including the juniors already selected for participation in British Junior Squash Championship being held at Sheffield from Jan 2 to 5.

The juniors selected for the British tour include two girls - Maria Toor Pakay and Sara Awan. The selected boys in four different age categories are: Yasir Butt, Farhan Mehboob and Basit Ashfaq (under-19), Adnan Khan, Alamzeb Jr. and Aamir Atlas (under-17), Waqar Mehboob, Shohaib Hassan and Asif Khan (under-15) and Ali Ayub, Danish Atlas and Farhan Zaman (under-13). -APP
