KARACHI: MPs urged to raise voice against privatization

KARACHI, Nov 19: The Parents Action Committee (PAC) of St Joseph's College on Friday appealed to MPAs, MNAs, senators and federal and provincial ministers elected from Karachi to play their role in getting denationalization of college stopped as otherwise, many poor students would not be able to seek admissions at the institution.

The provincial cabinet a few months back had approved denationalization of St Joseph's and St Patrick's colleges, endorsing their handing over to the Catholic Education Board.

PAC convener Naseem Siddiqui said both the colleges were ranked as top colleges in Karachi and their denationalization was a conspiracy to close doors of education for the poor students.

He said that hundreds of poor students, whose parents could not afford heavy fees, used to get admissions at both these colleges on merit. However, such students would not be able to get admissions in these colleges after denationalization, as fees would be increased manifold.

Urging elected representatives to raise their voice against the unjust policy of denationalization of educational institutions, he said that it was the right of all citizens, irrespective of their financial status, to get quality education. -PPI
