KARACHI, Nov 18: Adil Atlas and Amjad Khan moved ahead in the pre-qualifying rounds of the Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship after disposing off their opponents with effortless ease at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Thursday.

Adil hardly worked up a sweat in demolishing Asad Ayaz 11-3, 11-1, 11-0, while Amjad made short work of Mohib Khan 11-4, 11-5, 11-0. However, Asad and Mohib although on the losing side in round one were still very much alive in the tournament winning their other two respective matches.

This time playing much better squash, Asad beat M. Suleman in four hard fought games, while Mohib had a comfortable three games victory over Fahad Khan.

In the other first round matches played, Shamsul Islam got the better of Shahab Hussain 11-8, 11-4, 11-7, but Shahab playing his second match for survival in this tournament, beat Naveed Alam 11-6, 11-4, 11-8.

The same could be said about Khurram Shahzad and Suleman Patrick.

Khurram went down to Kashif Khan 7-11, 4-11, 5-11 and Suleman ended up on the losing side after a very keen tussle with Bilal Zaman 11-10, 11-1, 9-11, 11-7. Although terribly disappointed with the outcome of the match, Suleman managed to get is act together in round two breezing past Najeeb Ullah 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6.

In a match filled with thrills ad spills that went the full distance, Abdul Saeed accounted for Osama Khan 11-5, 10-12, 8-11, 11-9, 13-11. Although terribly exhausted after this intriguing encounter, Osama did himself proud by getting the better of M. Naseem 11-4, 11-9, 2-11, 11-9 in the next round.

In other matches played, M. Naeem beat M. Asif 11-7, 11-10, 11-4 and Jehanzeb Masood had a fight on is hands before disposing off Tahir Khan 11-9, 11-5, 11-7.

Given another opportunity to qualify for the main draws, M. Asif had an easier encounter, ousting Zeeshan Khan 11-3, 11-2, 11-7. Tahir Khan on the other hand beat M. Qasim 11-8, 11-4, 4-11 and 11-9, while Abdul Saeed beat Asif Khan 11-8, 11-10 (2-0), after his opponent already two games down surrendered the match after suffering with a bout of cramps.

The qualifying rounds continue on Friday morning at the same venue.
