CHITRAL, Nov 18: Small Hydel Development Organization (SHYDO) has failed to restore power supply in those areas of Mulkhow tehsil which were hit by torrential rains and snowfall last month.

The elected representatives and the authorities of the department had assured the people a month ago that the transmission line from the hydel power station Reshun would be repaired soon.

However, no work was in progress on the site, residents said and added that the local people repaired the local lines on self-help basis, but the main transmission line remains disconnected due to sheer negligence of the department.

As a result of the heavy snowfall and rains, the grids had been severed at many places while a number of poles were uprooted. It was beyond the capacity of the local people to repair them on self-help basis, they added.

They alleged that the local authorities of SHYDO were employing delaying tactics in order to attract funds from the provincial government.

The sources said that relevant materials had already been sent to the district from Peshawar for restoring electricity, but the quarters concerned at the department took no initiative and were demanding more funds for this purpose.
