Proteas sweat on Kallis

Published November 18, 2004

NEW DELHI, Nov 17: South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis was being treated for an injury but his participation in the opening Test against India was still in doubt, a team official said on Wednesday.

"Kallis is being treated for a side strain and seems to be responding well but the final assessment will be made only on Friday," South African media manager Gerald De Kock told AFP.

The first of two Tests commences in Kanpur on Saturday with the second and final match to be held in Calcutta from November 28 to December 2. Kallis, a veteran of 80 Tests, had to bat on the last day of a three-day practice game despite the injury as South Africa struggled to hold on for a draw in Jaipur on Tuesday. -AFP
