ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to initiate a drive for the registration of car dealers under the sales tax net to raise maximum revenue from the sector.

An official source in the CBR told Dawn on Saturday that the drive would be launched after Eid to register these persons with the sales tax department across the country.

The decision was taken in a conference of collectors of sales tax held here recently to review measures for enhancing the sales tax base. All the collectors of sales tax have been directed to depute special officers for the purpose to visit the sites located in their jurisdiction.

The tax collectors would also interact with the car dealers associations for seeking their help in registering these persons with the sales tax department. It was estimated that around Rs2-4 billion would be raised from the sector.
