Pak Gym retain trophy

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 12: Defending champions Pak Gymkhana CC won the 19th Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan Callmate trophy after making short work of Delhi City Gymkhana by seven wickets in the final played on Friday at the Karachi Gymkhana ground.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Delhi City Gymkhana got off to a disasterous start losing Imran Nazir in the second delivery of the day without opening his account. Two more quick wickets fell and soon Delhi City were tottering at 46 for the loss of five wickets.

The Ashraf brothers Sharjil (24) and Saif (18) put on 26 runs for the sixth wicket, but once both brothers fell in quick succession to off-spinner Atif Maqbool, the writing was on the wall and Delhi Gymkhana were bundled out for 95 in 21.4 overs.

Atif was easily the pick of the Pak Gymkhana bowlers claiming four wickets for 14 runs in his five-over spell. Pacemen Tabish Khan two for 16 and Khurram Manzoor two for 23 caused the early damage.

Delhi City staring defeat in the face, gave their supporters a glimmer of hope when Tanveer Ahmed picked up two quick wickets. But with Afsar Nawaz cracking 44 runs off 41 deliveries laced with five boundaries and Nomanullah unbeaten with 22, Pak Gymkhana cruised home hitting up 99 for the loss of three wickets in 15.4 overs.

Tanveer Ahmed claimed two wickets for 17 runs for the losers. Atif Maqbool received a sum of Rs.5000, being declared the Man-of-the-Match.

Summarized scores:

Delhi City Gymkhana 95

Pak Gymkhana 99 for three wickets in 15.4 overs.
