ISLAMABAD Nov 11: Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi of the Supreme Court on Wednesday said speedy and qualitative justice was the most important and indispensable contributory factor for good governance.
"In the environment of present-day highly competitive world, the judiciary plays an important role in the overall development of society, and the people rightly look towards it for redressal of their grievances," Justice Abbasi said while speaking at the concluding ceremony of a three-week in-service training course for senior civil judges/civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates at the Federal Judicial Academy.
The image of an effective judiciary should be built as an independent and insular institution, he said, adding that the main purpose of such training courses was to improve the quality of justice through enhancement of professional calibre and abilities and to broaden the vision of the participants by exposing them to new disciplines and horizons.
Imparting modern skills and techniques to the civil judges helps in eliminating the malaise of delay in disposal of cases, which is eroding public confidence in courts and tarnish the image of the judiciary, he added.
Chaudhry Hasan Nawaz, Director-General of the academy, presented the review of the course.
He said the administration of fair justice, that is to say the rule of law, was the most important factor in a civil society.
It should be the highest priority of the state to put the country on the path of peace, progress and prosperity, he added.
