SUKKUR: Rs2.2m Zakat cheques distributed

SUKKUR, Nov 11: Sindh Zakat and Ushr Minister Manzoor Ahmad Panhwar distributed Zakat cheques amounting to Rs2.2 million among 900 deserving people of Sukkur, Rohri, Salehpat and Pano Aqil talukas on Thursday.

An amount of Rs2 million was distributed among 800 people at the rate of Rs2,500 per head under the Guzara Allowance and Rs200,000 was distributed among 100 people at the rate of Rs2,000 per head under the Permanent Rehabilitation Scheme.

The minister also gave away a Zakat cheque of Rs20,000 to the Shamsabad Dispensary.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Panhwar highlighted government's efforts in improving the lot of poor people.

Earlier, District Zakat Committee chairman Hafiz Mohammad Ismail Jatoi in his briefing to the minister gave a break-up of the Zakat amount distributed so far in various talukas of the Sukkur district.

SCHEMES: As many as 59 development schemes of drainage, education works and village electrification have been initiated in the district under the MPAs programme.

An official press statement issued here on Wednesday said the schemes would be completed at a cost of Rs27.5889 million.

Of the total schemes, 11 drainage schemes in PS-I had been proposed by MPA Dr Nasrullah, six drainage schemes in PS-II by MPA Anwer Ali Mahar, 11 education works schemes and 18 drainage schemes in PS-III by MPA Jam Saifullah Dharejo, nine village electrification schemes in PS-IV by MPA Javed Hussain Shah and four schemes of village electrification by MPA Sakina Bano.

DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi has said work on the schemes was underway and hoped that it would be completed as per schedule.
