PESHAWAR: Jirga offers help to stop aerial firing on eve of Eid

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Nov 11: Jirga, a civil society organization of the Peshawar district, has offered its cooperation to the police to stop the menace of aerial firing on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Jirga at a meeting, decided to start a campaign against the tradition of aerial firing on the eve of Eid to celebrate sighting of Eidul Fitr moon.

They said that the aerial firing could cause injury or kill anyone coming under fire. It was an immoral and illegal practice which should be stopped.

They said it was a practice which should be abolished through awareness about importance of human lives and the harm that it could cause to them. They said that aerial firing was an un-Islamic practice. It was a show of power and wealth on a festival without caring for the precious lives of other people.

The police officials have also announced that aerial firing would not be allowed on the eve of Eid and action would be taken against those who were found involved in this practice.
