ARD slams govt on uniform bill

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 10: The Sindh chapter of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) on Wednesday slammed the government for the bill on the uniform issue , saying it reduced the parliament into a rubber stamp.

A meeting of the alliance was held at the residence of its president, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, during which recommendations for the central leadership were firmed up for bringing an end to a one-man rule.

The meeting also discussed measures pertaining to modalities for launching a nationwide protest campaign against the government.

The meeting also demanded of the government to ensure security for the common man and nab killers.

It also demanded that local fishermen of Sindh's coastal areas be emancipated from the alleged excesses of the Rangers, and emphasized that fishing contracts given to the latter, by denying livelihood to the fishermen, should be immediately cancelled.

The meeting also slammed the move by a major component of the ruling collation to get administrators appointed in place of nazims before the next local bodies' elections, and demanded that the present elected nazims continue in office until the next elections were held.

The meeting also condemned the life attempt on Mufti Firozuddin Hazarvi, calling it the failure of government's law enforcement policies.

Mr Shah claimed that people had been alienated because of the regimes' anti-people policies, adding they would give a push to anti-government protest rallies after Eid.

He also cautioned against any decision to construct the Kalabagh dam on the river Indus, which he said would ruin Sindh and turn it into a desert.

A vast area had already become barren due to government policies, he said, adding that many people had lost their jobs, and were being forced to migrate to other places.

The meeting was attended by the ARD Sindh General Secretary, Zain Ansari, and other component parties.
