KARACHI: No uniform policy on charged parking

KARACHI, Nov 10: Despite the city government's decision to abolish charged parking, miseries of people could not come to an end as other land-owning agencies are continuously charging the parking fee.

The city government had abolished the charged parking from its lands following the adoption of a resolution by City Council to ban the charged parking in city.

However this move, which brought some relief to motorists, could not eliminate the sufferings of people on permanent basis as other land owning agencies are reluctant to take such step.

In Saddar, people are still compelled to pay fee to park their vehicles in parking zones established by other land owning agencies, as lifting of vehicles parked on city government land by traffic police is a common scene these days.

A motorist said that lack of uniform policy for civic matters is a big source of nuisance for a common man. "The city government abolished charged parking system but other land-owning agencies are taking the fee," he added. -PPI
