PESHAWAR: Clemency sought for prisoners

PESHAWAR, Nov 10: The chairman of the Voice of Prisoners, Noor Alam Khan, has urged the government to grant clemency to the aged, ailing and teenaged prisoners, and waive off fines imposed on them, on the eve of Eidul Fitr so that they could celebrate the festival with their families.

Besides, he demanded that one-year clemency be granted to all other convicts.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he asked the government and philanthropists to extend help to the prisoners throughout the country and let them share the joys of Eid with them.

He pointed out that majority of the accused could not be released from the jail due to non payment of Diat money.

He said the government should arrange money from Baitul Mal or Zakat funds to secure such prisoners' release. He added that majority of them could not pay the money due to poverty.

He asked the provincial ministers, district nazims to visit their jails in their constituencies on Eid day and extend felicitation to the prisoners.-PPI
