KARACHI: 75,000 students to take degree exams at KU

KARACHI, Nov 9: About 75,000 candidates would take degree exams commencing from Nov 25 at the University of Karachi, said a university official on Monday.
The exams for regular and private candidates will be held in three phases. The Bachelor of Arts (Pass) examination will begin from Nov 25 while BSc and BCom examinations will start from Dec 2 and Dec 9 respectively.
A total of 50 centres have been planned for BA (regular and external) examinations. As many as 33 centres would be set up for females in various city colleges, while 17 centres would be set up for male candidates at university departments.
In the case of BSc exams, nine centres would be set up for female candidates in the city colleges, while another nine centres for male candidates at different departments of the university.
The list of centres for BCom examinations are being finalized, added a source.
About BCom examination, the official said that old course papers would be held in the morning shift while the papers from the new course would be held in the evening shift. The centres for male and woman candidates of old course of commerce will be set up inside the varsity.
KU examination controller Anwar Zaidi told Dawn that the schedule of exams had been sent to the colleges. He said that admit cards of BA and BSc exams had also been sent to the colleges for onward delivery to candidates, while those of BA (private) examinations had been dispatched to candidates through registered post at their residential addresses.
LIBRARY INAUGURATED: The Vice-Chancellor, University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, on Tuesday inaugurated the Dr Ahmed Ali Anwar Memorial Library at the Department of Microbiology, KU with financial assistance from philanthropists and donations from various other sources, adds PPI.
Speaking on the occasion, he paid homage to the late Dr Ahmed Ali Anwar, an eminent microbiologist and founder of the Department of Microbiology KU in 1957. He said that Dr Ali was the one who had introduced the subject of Microbiology in Pakistan.
"So far, over 6,000 students have graduated from KU's Microbiology department, and some of them have even established Microbiology departments at Khairpur University, Sindh University, Hazara University and the Punjab University," he informed.
Lauding the efforts of microbiologists serving at the department, he said that hundreds of KU students were not only serving at various pharmaceutical and food industries, but they were also serving at medical and health sectors. He also lauded faculty members for regularly holding seminars and symposia at the varsity.
Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, KU Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and other faculty members also spoke.
