KARACHI, Nov 9: The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, has said cooperation between police and the public is essential for peace and tranquillity in the city, adding that community policing during the month of Ramazan and eid, like in the previous year, was a proof of the fact.

He expressed these views while speaking to people during a visit to bazaars and markets in various parts of city on Monday night.

He was accompanied by the Sindh Home Minister, Rauf Siddiqui, Sindh Minister for Industries and Trade Adil Siddiqui, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Capital City Police Chief Officer Tariq Jameel, DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah and other officials.

Ibad lauded the improvement in parking arrangements, and hoped that more integrated steps would be undertaken to bring further betterment in this regard.

He appealed to people to co-operate with the police and administration, and park their vehicles at designated places for the benefit of all people.

Speaking about parking areas, he said that work was under way to resolve parking problems at shopping centres and busy areas of the city on a permanent basis.

"Special emphasis is being laid to revive parking zones in multi-storey buildings and shopping centres along with construction of multi-storey parking plazas," he added.

The governor mingled with the public and remained with them for some time.

He inquired them about arrangements, and congratulated them on the forthcoming occasion of Eid.

He also visited reception camps established by the police and market associations where he was appraised of measures taken for traffic, security and convenience of people.

Mr Ibad, responding to reports of extortion by police, said the government was keeping a vigilant eye on the situation and would take strong notice of such reports.

"If police personnel, showing good performance and cooperating with people are encouraged, those who bring a bad name to the department will be dealt with strictly," he added.

He noted that the police and administration were cooperating with shopkeepers and people as a whole and were striving for a peaceful and pleasant environment. - PPI
