Six uncapped named for Windies camp

ST JOHN'S, Nov 8: West Indies have named a provisional squad of 25 for the triangular one-day cricket series in Australia in January. The series, also involving Pakistan, will mark the team's return to action from a three month lay-off following their ICC Champions Trophy victory in England.

It will also be the first they have played under new coach Bennett King.

The squad includes six uncapped names: Deighton Butler, Narsingh Deonarine, Sherwin Ganga, Xavier Marshall, Dinesh Ramdin and Dwight Washington.

But batsmen Dwayne Smith and Sylvester Joesph, wicket-keeper Carlton Baugh and pacemen Tino Best and Fidel Edwards have all been overlooked.

Smith was dropped by Barbados during the President's Cup following poor returns in last month's regional limited-overs competition.

Provisional squad:

Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Courtney Browne, Deighton Butler, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore, Narsingh Deonarine, Mervyn Dillon, Daren Ganga, Sherwin Ganga, Chris Gayle, Ryan Hinds, Wavell Hinds, Reon King, Brian Lara, Xavier Marshall, Richard Morton, Ricardo Powell, Dinesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith, Dwight Washington.-Agencies
