DADU, Nov 8: A large number of farmers from Dadu taluka took out a procession here on Monday to protest against water shortage in Khudabad minor originating from the Dadu Canal.
Led by the leaders of the Dadu Abadgar Association, Jaro Khan Lund, Zulfiqar Ali and others, the protesters later staged a demonstration outside the press club for two hours.
Speaking on the occasion, the farmers' leaders alleged that the irrigation officials of Dadu taluka sold part of Khudabad minor's water share to influential landlords at upper stretch of the canal.
As a results, they said that the water channel had remained dry from RD-0 to 20 for two months and the paddy and cotton crops standing over hundreds of acres had been destroyed.
They appealed to Sindh Irrigation Minister Nadir Akmal Leghari and Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Memon to take notice of the matter and ensure restoration of full water supply to the channel.
Meanwhile, farmers from Johi taluka also staged a demonstration outside the Dadu Press Club in protest against artificial shortage of water in the Pahore and Patoro water channels.
Speaking on the occasion, Habibullah Leghari and Moula Bukhsh Leghari said that water supply to the channels had been suspended and consequently, over 2,000 acres of paddy and cotton crops had been destroyed.
They accused the irrigation officials of selling water to the influential landlords of the area and appealed to the irrigation authorities to provide their land their just share of water.
AMENITIES: Activists of the different political, social and trade organizations held a demonstration outside the press club on Monday in protest against the collapse of drainage and water supply system in the town.
They raised slogans against the district nazim, taluka nazim and the DCO.
Mujeebur Rehman, Ubed Leghari, Bashir Solangi, Ghulam Mohammad Brohi, Majid Zour and Mansoor Jamali led the protesters.
Speaking on the occasion, they said drainage water and solid waste had accumulated on the main roads and in different localities but district and taluka administrations had done nothing.
They said there was no water for drinking in different parts of the town due to which people were facing manifold problems.
