Musharraf's remarks off the cuff: Manmohan
NEW DELHI, Nov 7: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday refused to react to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's recent proposals to resolve the Kashmir problem, describing them as "off the cuff remarks."
"It is a general statement. I don't have to react to all the off the cuff remarks," Dr Singh was quoted by Press Trust of India as telling reporters travelling with him to The Hague.
President Musharraf had suggested that India and Pakistan consider the option of identifying some "regions" of Kashmir on both sides of the LoC, demilitarise them and grant them the status of independence or joint control or management under UN mandate.
Asked if Gen Musharraf were to make the same proposals in a formal dialogue, what would be his reaction, Dr Singh said: "It is a hypothetical question. We will cross the bridge when we come to it."
In Srinagar, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, however, offered hopes for an internal ceasefire with militants fighting Delhi's rule.
According to reports, the minister indicated that if the violence graph continues to drop significantly, New Delhi might even think of stopping operations against militant groups inside the valley.
