KHAIRPUR, Nov 7: The Sindh Abadgar Board held a protest demonstration outside the Hingorja Press Club here on Sunday against cotton factory owners for not paying growers the fixed price for cotton.
The government had fixed the cotton price at Rs925 per maund but the factory owners of the district have been paying growers Rs100 less than the actual price for one week.
Talking to the protesters, Abdul Fatah Memon, Mohammad Zafar Tunio, Bachal Khan Chang, Mohammad Yousuf Tanwazi and other leaders of the board criticized the factory owners for not paying the fixed price to growers. They said this was an injustice with cotton growers.
They demanded that the president, prime minister, federal agriculture minister, Sindh chief minister and the governor should take notice of the matter and direct the factory owners to purchase cotton at the fixed price.
ELECTROCUTED: A youth, Imtiaz Ahmad, son of Mukhtiar Ahmad Chano, was electrocuted while he was repairing electricity connection of his home near Tunio Pul, Kingri, on Saturday evening.
ZAKAT: A meeting of activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians was held here on Saturday which was also attended by more than 15 union council nazims of the Awam Dost Panel.
The participants expressed dissatisfaction over performance of the chairman of the district Zakat Committee and demanded his removal from the post.
The meeting also rejected selection of chairmen of Zakat committees at Deh level and demanded their re-election under the supervision of judicial officers.
The participants decided to hold a protest demonstration outside the office of the chairman of the district Zakat committee on November 10.
They included the nazims of Garhi Mori, Kot Mir Mohammad, Manghawari, Long Fakir, Bukhari, Shah Latifabad, Bhurgari and Babarloi union councils, vice-president of the Khairpur Bar Association Rana Shah and a large number of PPP members.
