Altaf meets Singh, other dignitaries

KARACHI, Nov 5: Founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain, who is in the Indian capital, exchanged views on Friday with dignitaries from various countries on matters relating to the subcontinent and regional issues , on the sidelines of an international conference which began here on Friday.

According to MQM sources here, Mr Hussain met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, renowned statesman and former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger, former British prime minister John Major and a number of other personalities attending the conference organized by The Hindustan Times.

Among the issues he discussed with the Indian and Western leaders were Indo-Pakistan relations, ways to establish peace in the region, the Kashmir issue, and the role which the middle class people of India and Pakistan could play for progress, the MQM sources said.

On Thursday night, Mr Hussain visited the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia where the Sajjada Nashin performed the traditional dastarbandi of the MQM leader. Mr Hussain would deliver his address at the conference on Saturday.
