ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: The National Assembly passed 19 resolutions during the second parliamentary year but failed to implement a specific resolution requiring action while others dealt with condolences
, condemnations and recommendations.
The resolutions passed by the National Assembly showed the position of the government on specific matters relating to national and international matters, officials in the secretariat said.
According to details, the National Assembly passed a resolution to include in educational curricula Quaid-i-Azam's speech delivered in the inaugural session of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on August 11, 1948. The resolution was moved by M.P. Bhandara and adopted by the house on October 19 this year.
The Quaid's liberal and forward vision of Pakistan as mentioned in the speech had been censored by some previous governments. The house, in its session of December 27, 2003, passed a resolution to condole the sad demise of late senator Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani. Another resolution passed by the house on December 29, 2003 admitted flaws and space for improvement in legislation done by previous governments.
The resolution, moved by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, recommended formation of a committee by the prime minister to improve all laws made by previous governments. On March 8, 2004, the house passed a resolution to condole the sad demise of late federal minister for labour, manpower and overseas Pakistanis, Abdul Sattar Laleka.
The house passed a resolution on March 22, 2004 to condemn the targeted assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, a spiritual leader of Palestine. On June 11, the house passed a resolution moved by several MNAs "to implement the 7th Wage Board Award in the country". However, the parliament's resolution specifying the action required from the government could not be implemented till the end of the second parliamentary year of the National Assembly.
On the same day, June 11, the house also passed a resolution to condemn the attack on the convoy of Corps Commander Karachi. On July 23, the lower house passed a resolution to appreciate the decision of the International Court of Justice declaring the boundary wall constructed by Israel as illegal and asked the United Nations to take steps for implementation of the said decision.
On July 27, the National Assembly passed another resolution to appreciate the International Court of Justice's decision against Israel constructing an illegal boundary wall and supported the decision by the UN General Assembly in this regard.
On the same day, the house passed a resolution moved by Raja Pervez Ashraf recommending the government to take appropriate steps for the release of two Pakistanis abducted in Iraq and to protect their life.
On July 29, the house passed another resolution on the same issue and condemned the kidnapping of two Pakistanis in Iraq and their murder. On July 30, the house passed a resolution to change the name of the special committee of the National Assembly on Kashmir as 'Special Committee of Parliament on Kashmir'.
On August 13, the house passed a resolution to condemn terrorist attack on Shaukat Aziz. On the same day (August 13), the house passed a resolution with regard to the situation in Najaf-i-Ashraf in Iraq and called upon all parties in the conflict to respect the sanctity of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Ali.
On August 25, the house passed a resolution showing its concern over the desecration of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Ali at Najaf-i-Ashraf, Iraq, and demanded for holding a meeting of the OIC.
The house also asked the government to make its efforts more effective to stop desecration of Roza-i-Hazrat Ali in Najaf-i- Ashraf. On September 24, the house passed a resolution to condemn the "attempt of Israeli Jews, under the auspices of police, to put Al-Aqsa mosque on fire".
On the same day (September 24), the house passed a resolution for constitution of a committee of the parliament to examine the current situation in Balochistan and to make recommendations to promote inter-provincial harmony.
On October 19, the house passed a resolution which recommended to the government to take steps for proper legislation for economic, social, political and legal rights of women. On the same day, the house adopted a resolution regarding "unruly behaviour of miscreants who attempted to desecrate the shrine of Guru Nanak at Nankana Sahib".
