MULTAN, Nov 5: Begum Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, mother of incarcerated PPP leader and former National Assembly speaker Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, died of heart attack in Lahore on Friday. She was 70.

Her funeral prayers will be offered at Nishter Hospital ground on Saturday soon after the Zuhr prayers. Later, she will be buried Hazrat Musa Pak Shaheed graveyard.

She had two sons and three daughters. Her other son Syed Ahmed Mujtaba Gilani has been the nazim of Multan Sadar tehsil. One of her daughters and mother of MNA Asad Murtaza Gilani had died recently.

Mujtaba told Dawn that his brother had been released on parole and would join the last rites of their mother in Multan. Begum Alamdar was also sister-in-law of Pir Pagara, paternal aunt of Rahim Yar Khan's District Nazim Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and maternal aunt of MNA Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi of Bahawalpur.

PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, ARD Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Punjab PPP Information Secretary Naveed Chaudhry have offered their condolences. Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and PML president Shujaat Hussain also expressed their grief.
