HYDERABAD: Privatization of colleges opposed

HYDERABAD, Nov 4: Members of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers' Association from different districts of the region met at the Sachal Sarmast Arts and Commerce College here on Wednesday
to discuss organizational matters and the prevailing academic situation in the province.
The founder chairman of the SPLA, Mr Liaquat Aziz, presided over the meeting.
The meeting discussed in detail the problems confronting the college teachers and adopted several resolutions demanding an end to the privatisation of educational institutions and the withdrawal of a notification about the transfer of St. Patrick College and St. Joseph Girls College to the private sector.
It demanded that vacant posts be filled through promotions.
It urged the government to immediately upgrade 537 posts under the four-tier formula, issue notification in respect of 507 seats which were lying vacant in grade-18 to 20.
The meeting said that 33 per cent posts of librarians and the director of physical education should be upgraded.
It demanded that the original status of teachers' foundation and college teachers' academy should be restored, the teachers be exempted from the payment of income tax, their salaries and allowances should be increased commensurate with ratio of inflation and 40 per cent of the salary be paid as medical allowance in place of the so-called medical facilities.
It called for early elections to the Sindh University senate and academic council and demanded that the rotation policy of examination duties of the Sindh University and Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education be restored.
Those who attended the meeting include Siddique Unnar, Pir Nisar Jan Sarhandi, Abdul Karim Bhatti, Syed Muzaffar Shah and Taj Joyo.
SU: Director admissions University of Sindh on Thursday announced that the schedule for admission to evening programme in various courses of the department of the public management sciences for one and two years masters (MPA) and one year post graduate diploma programme for the session 2005.
Admission forms for admission to two-year master's in public administration (MPA) and one-year postgraduate diploma in public administration with specialization in marketing, financial management, human resource management and management information services (MIS) can be obtained from Hyderabad and Jamshoro on prescribed form fee with effect from Nov 11. For admission to two-year masters in public administration, bachelor's degree in any discipline from any recognized institute with at least 45 per cent marks is necessary.
The last date for submission to admission forms along with all required documents has been fixed as Nov, 25.
EXAMINATION: Controller of Examination University of Sindh has announced that practical examination of M.Sc (previous and final) postgraduate colleges annual examination of 2003 of various subjects will be conducted from Nov 22.
Candidates concerned have been advised to check the detail of practical examination programme at their colleges.
ADMIT CARDS: Director admissions University of Sindh has announced for the information of all candidates who have deposited admission forms for admission to bachelors programme to collect their admit cards from Sindh University Model School Hyderabad up to Nov 6.
