ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has denounced the killing of a woman in the name of honour at Nangua village near Kashmore in Sindh.
A 50-year-old woman and mother of eight was killed reportedly by the brother of her husband in the name of honour last week. Reports said the woman had asked the police for protection, but the latter failed to provide security. No case has been registered, the reports said.
According to a statement issued by PPP media cell on Tuesday, Ms Bhutto said it was abominable that women continued to be killed in the name of honour, but the rulers failed to take notice.
She said the recent amendments made to the law to check honour killings were merely an eyewash to silence those criticizing lack of will on part of the rulers to address the issue.
She called for immediate arrest of the killers and punishment according to the law.
