LAHORE: Data Town council supports uniform
By Our Reporter
LAHORE, Nov 1: The Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Council on Monday adopted a resolution supporting the holding of two offices by Gen Pervez Musharraf after being described as unnecessary by some councillors.
The resolution was moved by Khurshid Anwar after the conclusion of the business on agenda at the council session held here with Town Naib Nazim Shahid Munir Malik in the chair. Town Nazim Tariq Sana Bajwa was also present.
Ikramul Haq and Shahid Majid were of the view that adoption of the resolution by the town council was not necessary after its adoption by the National Assembly and having been moved in the Senate. The resolution was, however, declared adopted after some discussion.
The council validated the charging of parking fee of Rs5 for motorcycles and Rs10 for cars on the proposal of Nadeem Chaudhry on the grounds that the contractors were already charging the fee in connivance with the town staff. The council proposed increase in the contract money of different parking stands proportionate to the increase in the fee.
The council constituted a committee, headed by Sher Bahadr, to look into the causes of a shortfall in the projected income from the sanction of the site plans on a resolution moved by Mian Riaz Ahmad expressing concern at the collection of only Rs9.367 million during the first four and a half months of the current fiscal against a Rs60 million annual income target.
Yousaf Lodhi opposed approaching the union councils for assistance in identification of the buildings raised without sanction of the site plans, saying the UCs were not supposed to spy on behalf of the town administration.
The council also adopted Shahid Saeed's resolution stressing the need for regulating the operations of motorcycle-rickshaws. The councillor pointed out that the increase in the number of motorcycle-rickshaws was creating traffic problems. He stressed the need for ensuring the use of standardized silencers in rickshaws, barring men below 25 to drive the rickshaws and earmarking parking spaces for the same at different places.
The council also adopted Asad Qazzafi's resolution calling upon the police authorities to ban the use of tinted glasses and tape-recorders in the vans used for providing transport to the girl students. He also stressed the need for an action against the van drivers making the girls sit on front seats.
Nabila Shaheen's resolution for conversion of the buses plying in the city district on CNG, Shahid Saeed's resolution in respect of installation of streetlights on more than 25-foot wide roads and streets and Miss Akhtari Iqbal Chaudhry's resolution in respect of opening of a Nadra office on Bund Road were also adopted.
A committee headed by Mian Amjad Billu was constituted to identify the causes for increase in encroachments in the town.
