RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: The draft national sports strategy proposes cash incentives for Pakistani athletes excelling in international events.

An athlete capturing a gold at the Olympic Games, World Cup or the World Championship, could become richer by Rs 10 million while in team events each member will get Rs 2 million.

Similarly a silver in an individual event could be worth Rs 5 million and a team event may fetch each member Rs 1 million.

An individual bronze could earn the athlete Rs 3 million with Rs 0.6 million being set aside for every member of the team picking up that medal.

A gold in events like Commonwealth Games, Champions Trophy, British Open and Asiad would mean the athlete pocketing Rs 5 million with every member of the team doing the same getting Rs I million.

Rs 2 million will go to a silver winner and Rs 0.5 million for each player achieving the feat in a team competition. The bronze combination will be Rs 1 million and Rs 0.2 million.

A gold medalists of SAF or Islamic Games will take home Rs 0.2 million and Rs 50,000 each will be reserved for winners of the team event.

A silver medal in these competitions will bring in Rs 0.1 million to the athlete and Rs 30,000 each in team competition. The bronze figures will be Rs 50,000 and Rs 15,000.

The coaches and the assistant coaches will get 50 percent and 25 percent respectively of the prizemoney of the winning players.

The incentives are to be approved by the cabinet.
