KARACHI, Oct 30: Justice Amir Hani Muslim of Sindh High Court, who is also administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi, on Saturday remanded six activists of the banned Hizbul Tehrir to police custody till Nov 2 on charge of carrying out party activities despite ban.

Shahzad Zahid, Ali Bin Zahid, Syed Mirajuddin, Asimuddin, Syed Bilal Ahmed and Dr Ismail Sheikh were arrested by the police on Friday from Paposhnagar as they announced to hold demonstration to denounce US-led allied forces invasion of Iraq. Police foiling their attempt to stage demonstration arrested them.

They were produced before court for obtaining remand. Police charged them with carrying out activities despite ban and inciting people against government and friendly countries through speeches.

The case was registered against them in Nazimabad police station Karachi under section 11-F (3)(4) of Anti-Terrorism Act with Section 147 of the PPC.

The AJ, refusing 14 days remand request of investigation officer, gave Hizb activists in a four-day police remand and ordered that they may be produced on the next date of hearing.

The federal government on Nov 20, 2003, declared Hizbul Tehrir as proscribed organization in exercise of powers of Section 11-B, read with 11-E of the ATA.

JUNDULLAH CASE: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi, headed by Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a trial against 11 activists of the Jundullah.

They are facing charges of attacking the motorcade of the corps commander in June this year.

On Saturday, supplementary charge-sheets of co-accused Adnan Shah alias Tipu in the corps commander and the policemen killing cases were submitted by the investigation officers. Adnan requested time to engage a counsel on his behalf.

The court, granting request, fixed Nov 8 for additional indictment against co-accused in the corps commander convoy attack case.

Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar and Khalid Rao are charged with attacking the motorcade of the then corps commander, Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat, on June 10 in Clifton in which 10 people, including six army personnel and three policemen, were killed.

They were booked under Section 302, 324, 404, 34 PPC, with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 Section 3,4 and 5 of Explosives Act in Boating Basin Police Station.

Special Public Prosecutors Iqtedar Ali Hashmi and Maula Bux Bhatti appeared for the state while Khalid Khan Urshi, Hameed Kashmiri, Maqboolur Rehman, Mushtaq Ahmed, M R Syed are representing the defence side.

Meanwhile, the same court put off hearing of a trial against activists of the Jundullah for their alleged involvement in six separate terrorism cases pertained to bomb blasts and law-enforcers killing cases.

The court also fixed Nov 8 for the next hearing.-PPI
