KARACHI: Police interfere in KBCA operation

KARACHI, Oct 30: The Soldier Bazaar police on Saturday took into custody a demolition squad of Karachi Building Control Authority which had gone to demolish the illegal constructions raised by the United Bakers and Store in the jurisdiction of Ferozabad police station on the orders of the Sindh High Court.

On receipt of information, KBCA Chief Controller Brig (Retd) A.S. Nasir contacted the police high-ups and upon their intervention, the KBCA staff was freed.

The Sindh High Court had ordered the KBCA to demolish the illegal constructions raised at the arcade of the United Bakers and Store on Plot No 556 in PECHS Central Commercial Area.

When the KBCA had taken the step to demolish the illegal constructions, the bakery owner volunteered to demolish the same by himself.

When KBCA staff, headed by Deputy Controller Samat Ali Khan, reached there to carry out demolition, the Soldier Bazaar police mobiles took them into custody and tortured the staff.

The chief controller contacted the police high-ups and informed them about the interference of the police station. He said that he would get the building laws enforced with all strictness and no interference or pressure in this regard would be accepted.

Later, the KBCA demolition squad reached the United Bakers and demolished the illegally raised constructions and restored the arcade. - APP
