KARACHI: 5 vehicles set on fire as 4 die in accidents

KARACHI, Oct 30: Four people lost their lives in road accidents on Saturday in various city areas. Following the incidents, the enraged people set at least five vehicles on fire.

A trailer hit a man and injured him near Nagin Chowrangi. The area people got furious and intercepted the trailer and set it on fire. They also intercepted another trailer and torched it. Area police reached the spot and dispersed the people.

Burhana Ameen, a 27-year-old newly-married woman, died as she was crushed by a minibus.

Burhana was travelling in the minibus, and as she got down the minibus of route G-17, she lost her balance and fell on the ground near Today's Restaurant in Buffer Zone.

As the driver accelerated the minibus, the woman came under the rear wheels of the vehicle and died on the spot.

After the accident, people and passengers of the bus got furious set it on fire.

The police and fire brigade reached the spot and extinguished the fire. The police brought the situation under control and impounded the vehicle. They also arrested the driver from the scene.

In another accident, angry people set a bus on fire when it ran over a motorcyclist near Five-Star intersection in North Nazimabad on Saturday. However, the police and fire brigade officials saved the bus from being burnt completely.

Police said a route 4 bus (P-0048) hit a motorcyclist, Mohammad Omair, near Five-Star intersection. Omair, a resident of New Karachi, died before being given a medical aid. People stopped the bus and set it on fire.

Police and fire brigade reached the spot and put out the fire. However, the bus was burnt partially. The police claimed to have arrested the errant driver Anwar and impounded the bus.

Enraged people set a truck on fire near Sohrab Goth intersection on Saturday, after it ran over a bicycle. and killed Islamuddin, 55.

Police said a truck (LDC-489) hit Islamuddin, 55, at Sohrab goth. Islam died on the spot and the dumper overturned which was later set on fire by an a crowd.

In this incident, people got provoked by the rash driving of the driver and also pelted the moving vehicles with stones, blocking the road for some time.

Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The police also claimed to have arrested the errant driver.

In another hit-and-run accident, an unidentified woman, in her early 60s, died near Sindhi Hotel in New Karachi.

CLASH: Seven students were injured on Saturday, in a clash between two student groups at Gulshan-i-Iqbal campus of the Federal Urdu University for Arts, Science and Technology.

Police said the students belonging to the All-Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization and Pakhtoon Student Federation engaged in a clash each other on the campus. A free for all started between the two groups in the morning in which clubs, iron rods, bottles, and stones besides kicks and blows were used freely. Police said that firing also took place as two students, later identified as Maqsood and Imran, were sent to JPMC with bullet wounds.
