Prosecution told to produce evidence against Asif: Murtaza case
KARACHI, Oct 29: District and Session Judge East Zafar Ahmed Khan Serhwani on Friday directed the prosecution to produce all relevant evidences against ex-Senator Asif Ali Zardari till Nov 27
, which according to it, may connect him in conspiracy to kill Murtaza Bhutto.
The court was hearing acquittal application of Asif Ali Zardari, filed by defence side in Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case. Special Public Prosecutor Ilyas Khan, opposing the defence application, said prosecution has very strong evidence to prove to establish conspiracy for killing Murtaza Bhutto and others. He said prosecution has to produce further evidence to prove its case against the accused.
He further contended that at this stage of the trial, the application could not be decided. The court, directing the prosecution to produce rele-vant evidence against Asif Zardari, put off the hearing till Nov 27.
Murtaza Bhutto, brother of Benazir Bhutto and Chairman, Pakistan People's Party (SB), was killed with seven others, including his close aide Ashiq Jatoi, on Sept 20, 1996, near his residence in Clifton.
JUSTICE NIZAM CASE: District and Sessions Judge, Central, Syed Pir Ali Shah on Friday put off hearing of murder case of Justice Nizam Ahmed and his son Nadeem Ahmed till Nov 5 as convener of a medical board expressed inability to give an expert opinion as inquired by the court.
Earlier, on previous date of hearing, the court while perusing a report by a medical board which recommended further treatment of accused Asif Ali Zardari for his lumbar and skin problem summoned convener of the said board to give an expert opinion regarding recommendation of the board.
Dr Mohtram Ali Shah, appearing before the court on notice, submitted that he is not an expert in this particular field and thus cannot give any opinion. The trial court then put off hearing.
The accused include Asif Zardari, Bilal Shaikh, Javed Akhtar Pirzada, who has jumped bail and Baber Sindhu an alleged hired assassin. Both Justice Nizam Ahmed and his son Nadeem Ahmed were gunned down in June 1996 by unidentified gunmen allegedly over a property dispute pertaining to a costly plot adjacent to Awami Markaz. -APP
