Musharraf's proposal questioned

Published October 29, 2004

LAHORE, Oct 28: Muslim League leader Ahmad Saeed Kirmani has termed the three-point formula proposed by Gen Musharraf regarding Kashmir harmful to the interest of both the Kashmiris and Pakistan.

In a statement here on Thursday, he said the formula supported an "American-cum-Israel move to create another Israel on the territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It has seeds of dividing Kashmir into several states."

The PML leader said: "What is the guarantee that the water supply to Pakistan's rivers will not be affected, particularly when the sources of these rivers will not be under Pakistan's control; where is the guarantee that the UN forces, if employed under the garb of non-militarization, will quit the territory in a foreseeable future; and where is the guarantee that division resulting from the formula will be able to protect its independence against a possible attack from aggressive India?"

Lastly, he said, it was surprising that Gen Musharraf was welcoming a debate on the formula at the national level, but he never threw the issue of uniform for a public discussion within the country.
