ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a scheme worth Rs35 million to promote sports activities in universities.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the scheme aims at providing coaches to the 25 public universities of the country to supervise training programmes for student players and sports officials.

It would also aim at holding of sports gala for student players in 10 - six for men and four for women - different disciplines of sports. Besides, it will help set up fitness centres in 25 universities for student players.

Under the scheme, mini sports halls would be set up in three universities for indoor games and other sports activities.

It was also decided that eight universities would be provided grants to develop and improve the physical facilities at their campuses to cope with their increasing enrolment and need of their student players towards sports and other healthy activities.
