MIRPURKHAS, Oct 28: About 16,000 maunds of cotton were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in the Anmol cotton ginning factory in Ratanabad town on Thursday.

The manager of the factory, Mr Chundar Pal said the fire brigade were called from the Mirpurkhas city but the fire engines there were told to be out of order.

The Tando Allahyar and Hyderabad were also called for rescue but in vain.

Mr Pal said factory staff and local people were busy in extingushing the fire.

He claimed about 16,000 maunds of cotton were gutted.

PROTEST: Teachers and students of the Government Girls High School Rabia Basri boycotted their classes against the entry and intervention of outsiders in the school on Wednesday.

They also exchanged hot words with the headmistress of the school.

The headmistress called police to control the situation.

IMPRISONED: The district and sessions judge Iqbal Arain awarded life imprisonment to Ghulam Mustafa, Arman Ali and Liaquat Ali and fined Rs30,000 each in a murder case here on Wednesday.

The convicts will under go additional six months imprisonment each if they failed to pay fine.

The judge acquitted three co-accused Ishaque, Akhtar and Arshad alias Nawaz Ahmed for want of proof.

The murder case was registered at the Kot Ghulam Mohammad police on Jan 3 against the accused for killing Abdul Haq and injuring Ilyas and Abdul Rehman.

DEMO: Residents of the Khan town staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday in protest against the Khan police for not taking action against influential men for beating trader Roop Chand and his son Paro Mal.

The protesters, led by Dr Lal Chand, Babu Rajput, Kelash and Mir Mohammad Magsi, raised slogans against the SHO Khan police.
