GUJRAT, Oct 28: A joint raiding team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment and police from Mandi Bahauddin has arrested the Kharian assistant excise and taxation officer who was declared a proclaimed offender in a corruption case, it is learnt here on Thursday.

Reports said Mandi Bahauddin ACE had lodged two FIRs on graft charges against the then Mandi Bahauddin AETO, Malik Fazal, last year on the complaint of some people from Malikwal. Malik was declared a court deserter and a PO by a relevant court in the corruption cases, but was later posted AETO Kharian.

A joint raiding team of police and the ACE had conducted a raid at a hotel in Kharian and arrested Malik Fazal.

Sources said a Mandi Bahauddin court had granted his four-day remand in police custody.

CASES: Lalamusa city police on Thursday lodged a case against the owner of a printing press and a broker on the charge of printing and circulating a highly blasphemous pamphlet in the tehsil.

Religious leaders had set Thursday as deadline for registration of a case.

The FIR was lodged under section 295-A on the complaint of Iqbal and following a opinion given by the DSP (legal) that the pamphlet has hurt the sentiments of a sect.

Bilal Qureshi and Mudassar are already in the custody of the city police.

Meanwhile, the police also lodged a corruption case against a dismissed ASI on the orders of the DPO.

According to the FIR, complainant Naeem Ahmad said that ASI Arshad took Rs50,000 and Rs4,500 as bribe from him in a case.
