BAHAWALPUR, Oct 28: Cholistan is experiencing an acute drinking water shortage for human beings as well as livestock. The vast desert areas of Cholistan touch the peripheries of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts.

Cholistan has not received rain for the last about two months while the canals and ponds are also without water. Similarly, the tobas have either been dried up or about to dry.

The people of Cholistan are forced to drink water from the bottom of ponds along with their cattle heads at the same place. At many places, the Cholistanis have to bring drinking water from far off places.

In some areas, the personnel of the intelligence departments are extending assistance to the Cholistanis as they help provide drinking water to them on their vehicles from distant places. All the same, the herds of camels, sheep, cows and goats are unable to fully quench their thirst.

The Mailsi-Siphon Link Canal has also been closed due to which the canals responsible for supplying water to Salari, Mithra, Derawar and Ladamsar minors have dried up ceasing supply of drinking water to inhabitants of Cholistan.

The Cholistanis have drawn the attention of the quarters concerned over the issue and demanded alternate arrangements for the supply of drinking water.

ARRESTED: Baghdadul Jadid police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three dacoits at Chak 38-BC near Dera Bakha.
