DADU, Oct 26: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has demanded that the 1973 Constitution should be restored in its original form and President Gen Pervez Musharraf should shed is uniform by Dec 31 in line with the promise he had made with the people.

He made these demands while talking to newsmen and speaking at a public gathering at the PPP district minority wing office here on Tuesday. Mr. Khuhro said for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan restoration of 1973 Constitution in its original form was necessary.

He said that Pakistan was a democratic country and its president should be elected as per the process prescribed in the constitution and not through selection.

The opposition leader said if the Kalabagh Dam was constructed it would harm the country and the provinces because it was against the universally-accepted principles. He said that thousands of educated youths in the province had been waiting for jobs but the federal and provincial governments were using delaying tactics in this regard.

The PPP leader said the government had deployed Rangers along the coastal belt who were not allowing fishermen to catch fish in Thatta, Badin districts. He said the Rangers officials had beaten up fishermen and filed cases against them. He demanded that the government should look into the matter and allow fishermen to catch fish in the coastal areas which was their only source of livelihood.

Referring to the jirga system, the PPP leader said that the ministers, feudal lords and landlords were holding jirgas almost every day, which indicated that the government was trying to undo the judicial system.

Mr Khuhro said that the people would not get justice through the jirga system and instead domination of feudal lords and sardars would increase.

He said the Pakistan People's Party had not made any deal with the government. Asif Ali Zardari was facing fake charges in different cases and should be released and all the fake cases registered against him should be withdrawn, he demanded. He alleged that the government was victimizing PPP workers and leaders.

The PPP leader said the Sindh government had failed to bring peace, development and provide basic facilities to the province. He said the government was providing financial assistance to a number of organizations running under federal and provincial ministries but was not providing financial assistance to the victims of Dadu Sugar Mill.

He said the police were not arresting culprits involved in the theft of costly machinery of the Dadu Sugar Mill.
